Growing grapes at such a cool, foggy coastal location is an act of faith. Our Taylor Lane Vineyard on the Occidental ridges is less than six miles from the ocean and subject to sometimes ruthless fog and winds. To compensate, we installed a nearly horizontal trellis that captures the warm afternoon sun. The wine showed a balance between bright cherry and freshly-tilled-earth flavors, with firm acidity.
